In our latest Cooking Class, students had the chance to dive into the culinary world of Ukraine by making traditional dumplings filled with mashed potatoes and caramelized onions. Guided by teacher Katie, the class worked through each step of the process – from mixing the dough, shaping the dumplings, to carefully wrapping the filling inside. Despite the sticky dough and a few flour-covered fingers, our young chefs stayed fully engaged and enthusiastic throughout the session. More than just a cooking activity, the lesson offered a unique opportunity to explore a different culture and practice English in an interactive and hands-on way. Through cooking, language, and laughter, we brought a small piece of Ukraine into the classroom – one dumpling at a time.

This week, our young chefs at Speak Out took a culinary trip to Azerbaijan! 🇦🇿 As part of our international cooking series, the class explored traditional Azerbaijani cuisine—learning about unique ingredients, cooking techniques, and cultural traditions behind the dish. From prepping fresh herbs to plating like pros, students worked together to bring a delicious new recipe to life. Cooking is always more than just food—it’s about creativity, teamwork, and discovering the world one bite at a time. We’re excited to see where our cooking adventures take us next! The best part? Over the past few weeks, our classrooms have been transformed into cozy kitchens where students became little chefs in our exciting Cooking Class Series! Each session offered a unique chance to explore new recipes, develop practical skills, and learn about cultures through food. From fresh fruit desserts to flavorful Mexican dishes, students had the opportunity to try their hands at a wide range of recipes. They practiced chopping, mixing, rolling, and even flipping food on a hot pan—all while improving their English and teamwork skills. Some highlights included: 🍓 Mixed Fruit Desserts – Healthy and refreshing treats that helped students master knife skills and presentation.🌮 Mexican Quesadillas – A fun and cheesy dish that introduced students to international flavors.🍱 Other exciting dishes – From Asian-style snacks to creative food art, each session brought something new to the table. Beyond the kitchen tasks, students also practiced reading English recipes, following multi-step instructions, and working cooperatively in groups.
