As part of SpeakOut’s English program, our KC6 class recently participated in a special activity at the Cold Foods Festival, one of Vietnam’s important traditional holidays. Combining language learning with cultural exploration has made our learning experience more engaging and meaningful. During this special session, students had the opportunity to get hands-on by making Rice cakes using various colored flours. This not only helped them apply the vocabulary and phrases we’ve been teaching into practice but also allowed them to experience and engage in a part of Vietnamese culture. Under the guidance of teachers and with collaborative effort, we created delicious and colorful Rice cakes. Beyond just a fun activity, making cakes fostered a sense of bonding within the class, making it easier for students to communicate and collaborate with each other. KC6 shared experiences, suggestions, and supported each other throughout the baking process, creating a positive and energetic learning atmosphere. Finally, after completing the Rice cakes, we sat together to share our creations, taking photos to preserve the moment. This not only provided an opportunity to enjoy the delicious treats but also to socialize and chat with each other. This special class session was not only a way to learn English but also an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture through hands-on experience. The SpeakOut team will strive to maintain and enhance such activities in the future, allowing students to continue exploring and learning about the world around them through language learning.
